Sports Turf Company broke ground in September at KSU to begin construction on the new running track, and all was completed mid-December. The new 400-meter, eight lane track is a Rekortan M99 full-pour polyurethane. The 15mm thick surface is one of the premier track systems in the world.
The event-ready facility has a water pit for steeplechase events and a separate area for Shot Put competitions, Pole Vaulting and High Jump. One unique feature of the facility is the long jump area, which is situated outside of the track. This rare placement will offer fans a closer view of the action.
“This project was great from start to finish,” said Mark Becker, Sports Turf’s Track Division Manager. “We were able to turn the track around fairly quickly, use a very high-end product, and meet our deadline.”
This is Sports Turf’s second project at KSU. They also constructed the KSU Women’s Soccer Stadium that opened in 2010 and hosted the NCAA Women’s Division 1 College Championship in November this year.
